Law of seeds

Take a look at an apple tree. There might be five hundred apples on the tree, each with ten seeds. That’s a lot of seeds!
We might ask, “Why would you need so many seeds to grow just a few more trees?”
Nature has something to teach us here. It’s telling us: “Most seeds never grow. So if you really want to make something happen, you better try more than once.”


This might mean:
You’ll attend twenty interviews to get one job.
You’ll interview forty people to find one good employee.
You’ll talk to fifty people to sell one house, car, vacuum cleaner, idea…
And you might meet a hundred acquaintances to find one special friend.
When we understand the “Law of the Seed”, we don’t get so disappointed.
We stop feeling like victims. Laws of nature are not things to take personally.

Noisy People :)

A farmer came into Chinese town and asked the owner of a restaurant if he could sell him a million frog legs.. The restaurant owner was shocked and asked the man where he could get so many frog legs! The farmer replied, “There is a pond near my house that is full of frogs – millions of them. They all croak all night long and they are about to make me crazy!” So the restaurant owner and the farmer made an agreement that the farmer would deliver frogs to the restaurant, five hundred at a time for the next several weeks. The first week, the farmer returned to the restaurant looking rather sheepish, with two scrawny little frogs. The restaurant owner said, “Well… where are all the frogs?” The farmer said, “I was mistaken. There were only these two frogs in the pond. But they sure were making a lot of noise!”

1- Next time you hear somebody criticizing or making fun of you, remember, it’s probably just a couple of noisy frogs.
2- Problems always seem bigger in the dark. Have you ever laid in your bed at night worrying about things which seem almost overwhelming like a million frogs croaking? Chances are pretty good that when the morning comes, and you take a closer look, you’ll wonder what all the fuss was about.

Heart Touching Stories : Lessons for Life…

A man was putting up family pictures on the newly painted walls of his house. He was using nails and a hammer in order to hang the picture frames. In the process, some nails got bent and fell down on the floor.
The man’s 4 yr old daughter was playing near by. She wanted to play with her dad and called out to him. However the man was busy with framing the pictures, and so ignored her calls and finally asked her to go outside and play with her brother. The girl saw the nails lying on the floor. So she picked up a few nails and went out to play along with her brother.
After a while the son came running in and told his dad ~ that the girl was scratching the newly purchased car with the nails.
The man ran outside and in a fit of rage, the furious Man took his child’s hand & hit it many times, not realizing he was using the hammer, which was in his hand. With blood all over her hands, the girl was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The girl underwent an emergency operation. After a while, When the child saw her father in the hospital, with painful eyes she said : “Dad, I am so sorry, that I damaged your car “. With tears in her eyes, She continued looking at her hand and asked~  ‘Dad –  When will I get back my fingers? I promise that I will never ever damage your car again’.
At the hospital, The child had lost all her fingers due to multiple fractures.
The man was so hurt and speechless, that he couldn’t stop sobbing and crying for hours. The girl had lost her fingers forever, because of his uncontrolled anger and stupid action.
He went back to the car and kicked it many times. Devastated by his own actions, sitting in front of the car he looked at the scratches, His daughter had written ‘LOVE YOU DAD’.
Moral: Don’t do something permanently stupid just because you are temporarily upset. If you are patient in one moment of anger , you will escape a hundred days of sorrow… Remember, Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured. Anger and Love have no limit.
Always remember that “Things are to be used and people are to be loved”.  But the problem in today’s world is that “People are being used & Things are being loved”.

Selfishness over Sacrifice!

Once upon a time a sage and a disciple were discussing the issue of altruism versus selfish interest. The guru said to his disciple: "Don't trust anyone, particularly he who swears by ethics and principles.

Ultimately, a person whose primary focus is on the world, acts entirely in a selfish way".

The disciple was astounded. He remarked: "Shouldn't a spiritual seeker always think well of every person? Should he not trust the Lord seated in each person's heart?"

The sage replied: "We must trust in the spiritual goodness of every living being, but we should never delude ourselves about his natural material responses and behaviour".

He continued: "Even as a person condemns the unethical and unprincipled behavior of another, he will find himself helplessly behaving identically, when in similar circumstances".

Ultimately, we come to trust in the will of God, and His perfection. By the law of karma, each person will get his due. The mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine.

"What about trusting one's friends?" the disciple protested. "How about trusting one's parents, bro-thers and sisters?"

The sage replied: "Your only friend is God and those who cease to be, having lost themselves in Him. Many lives have you had before this one, many parents and many siblings".

Connections of the flesh are often a great burden. They create expectations on both sides that are impossible to fulfil, and obligations that often make life difficult to bear.

Despite blood being 'thicker than water', none may be truly depended upon. "The sooner you are free of such illusions, the happier you will become".

With these words, the sage led his disciple through pouring rain to the nearby river which was in spate. In the swelling river was a tree that was rapidly being submerged.

A monkey was seated near the top of the tree and she held her baby close to her breast. As the water rose higher, the mother climbed higher and higher.

Finally, as the water rose to her chest, the monkey raised the baby in her arms above her head. At this point, the disciple looked triumphantly at the guru.

"Wait a bit", said the sage. "Let us stay here awhile".

Finally, the water rose above her head. The mother monkey now placed the baby below the water, and climbed on it to keep her head above the flood.

At the moment of crisis, she sacrificed her child for her own life.

Have you ever been disillusioned by someone you trusted or believed in?
Unselfishness, sacrifice, unconditional love and service are the raison d'etre of the spiritual person. One should not however, expect unselfishness as the behavioral norm for other people, regardless of their relationship with you.
As far as worldly affairs with ordinary persons are concerned, either create systems that make depending entirely upon trust irrelevant, or align your interests so closely with them, that your interests become their interests.

That is a painful way to become enlightened. The painless way is to listen to the voices of wisdom that echo within.

Ancients have said that "One should never trust anyone in material consciousness". Every worldly person rides on what is termed manorath or chariot of the mind, and cannot be depended upon or trusted; especially where his selfish interest is concerned.

Trust in God and those who have truly lost themselves in Him.

Shaking off the past

A wise man was a participating in a conversation. He contributed by telling the group a joke. All those present were highly amused and appreciated the humour. After a while, he narrated the joke again. This time the response was more tempered. After some time, he said it the third time and it evoked barely any response. When he tried repeating it a fourth time, a member of the group burst out: “Why are you repeating the joke so many times? It’s no longer amusing; it’s irritating!” The wise man responded: “If repeating a joke ceases to amuse after a few times, then how do we carry on with repeated remembrance of painful stories?”The way a person deals with unpleasantness in the past influences largely, his attitude and approach to dealing with the present.

Carrying excess emotional baggage does not augur well; it could affect your self-esteem. You might get convinced that you are at the root of all the misfortunes that have befallen you and will mope and indulge in an unforgiving criticism of yourself. The already low levels of self esteem could ebb further and make you cynical. Embers of unpleasant memories get fanned by self-pity and self-criticism and so the flame of sorrow is kept alive. It is akin to being a jury at one’s own trial and about being obsessive about fixing the blame rather than the problem.

Moving on with life after an unsavoury incident requires one to view it as just one among many events and incidents in one’s life. Que sera sera -- whatever will be will be. Reminiscing and reacting to the past is as futile as attempting to resuscitate a corpse. Most people try and strive to uproot the weeds of unpleasant memories. This is not possible as selective amnesia is still in the domain of science fiction. The memories will remain and one needs to let them be. It is far more important not to be reactive about the long buried past and to not use that as a scale to measure oneself.

The past should never be empowered to affect the present. Passing a verdict about oneself based entirely on past events deals a body blow to growth and development. Every event is the outcome of a host of complex factors most of which are not entirely predictable or controllable. The possibility thinker is positive and has faith in himself believing that any dream is possible. The probability thinker, in contrast, is a sceptical individual teeming with self-doubt and fearing the probability of failure.

A farmer had a couple of horses that he used for tilling his land. They would be tied the whole day to plough the field or draw water from the well to irrigate the fields. At night the farmer would leave the rope tied round their necks but never bothered to tie the other end. It was free An onlooker enquired “Why don’t you tie the other end? Won’t the animal run away?”

The farmer replied “The end around their necks is enough to make them believe that they are captive. They are convinced that the other end is secured."

Jivanmukta

Sri Ramakrishna : "Have faith. Depend on God. Then you will not have to do anything yourself. Mother Kali will do everything for you.

"Jnana goes as far as the outer court, but bhakti can enter the inner court. The Pure Self is unattached. Both vidya and avidya are in It, but It is unattached. Sometimes there is a good and sometimes a bad smell in the air, but the air itself is unaffected.

"Once Vyasadeva was about to cross the Jamuna. The gopis also were there. They wanted to go to the other side of the river to sell curd, milk, and cream. But there was no ferry at that time. They were all worried about how to cross the river, when Vyasa said to them, 'I am very hungry.' The milkmaids fed him with milk and cream. He finished almost all their food.

Then Vyasa said to the river, 'O Jamuna, if I have not eaten anything, then your waters will part and we shall walk through.' It so happened. The river parted and a pathway was formed between the waters. Following that path, the gopis and Vyasa crossed the river. Vyasa had said, 'If I have not eaten anything'. That means, the real man is Pure Atman. Atman is unattached and beyond Prakriti. It has neither hunger nor thirst; It knows neither birth nor death; It does not age, nor does It die. It is immutable as Mount Sumeru.

"He who has attained this Knowledge of Brahman is a jivanmukta, liberated while living in the body. He rightly understands that the Atman and the body are two separate things. After realizing God one does not identify the Atman with the body. These two are separate, like the kernel and the shell of the coconut when its milk dries up.

The Atman moves, as it were, within the body. When the 'milk' of worldly-mindedness has dried up, one gets Self-Knowledge. Then one feels that Atman and body are two separate things. The kernel of a green almond or betel-nut cannot be separated from the shell; but when they are ripe the juice dries up and the kernel separates from the shell. After the attainment of the Knowledge of Brahman, the 'milk' of worldly-mindedness dries up.

"But it is extremely difficult to attain the Knowledge of Brahman. One doesn't get it by merely talking about it. Some people feign it. (Smiling) There was a man who was a great liar; but, on the other hand, he used to say he had the Knowledge of Brahman. When someone took him to task for telling lies, he said: 'Why, this world is truly like a dream. If everything is unreal, then can truth itself be rea1? Truth is as unreal as falsehood.'" (All laugh.)

Sri Ramakrishna sat with the devotees on the mat on the floor. He was smiling. He said to the devotees, "Please stroke my feet gently." They carried out his request. He said to M:, "There is great significance in this." (The stroking of his feet) Placing his hand on his heart, the Master said, "If there is anything here, then through this service the ignorance and illusion of the devotees will be completely destroyed."

Need of a Guru

A Devotee : Sir, is it necessary to have a guru?"

Sri Ramakrishna : "Yes, many need a guru. But a man must have faith in the guru's words. He succeeds in spiritual life by looking on his guru as God Himself. Therefore the Vaishnavas speak of Guru, Krishna, and Vaishnava.

One should constantly repeat the name of God. The name of God is highly effective in the Kaliyuga. The practice of yoga is not possible in this age, for the life of a man depends on food. Clap your hands while repeating God's name, and the birds of your sin will fly away.

One should always seek the company of holy men. The nearer you approach the Ganges, the cooler the breeze will feel. Again, the nearer you go to a fire, the hotter the air will feel.

But one cannot achieve anything through laziness and procrastination. People who desire worldly enjoyment say about spiritual progress: 'Well, it will all happen in time. We shall realize God some time or other.'

I said to Keshab Sen: 'When a father sees that his son has become restless for his inheritance, he gives him his share of the property even three years before the legal time. A mother keeps on cooking while the baby is in bed sucking its toy. But when it throws the toy away and cries for her, she puts down the rice-pot and takes the baby in her arms and nurses it.' I said all this to Keshab.

"It is said that, in the Kaliyuga, if a man can weep for God one day and one night, he sees Him.

Classes of Devotees

Sri Ramakrishna : "There are two classes of devotees. One class has the nature of the kitten. The kitten depends completely on its mother. It accepts whatever its mother does for it. The kitten only cries, 'Mew, mew!' It doesn't know what to do or where to go. Sometimes the mother puts the kitten near the hearth, sometimes on the bed.

Devotees of this class give God the power of attorney and thus become free of all worry. The Sikhs said to me that God was kind. I said to them: 'How is that? He is our Father and our Mother. Shouldn't parents bring up their children after begetting them? Do you mean to say that the neighbours will look after them?' Devotees of this class have an unwavering conviction that God is our Mother and our Father.

"There is another class of devotees. They have the nature of the young monkey. The young monkey clings to its mother with might and main. The devotees who behave like the young monkey have a slight idea of being the doer. They feel: 'We must go to the sacred places; we must practise japa and austerity; we must perform worship with sixteen articles as prescribed by the sastras. Only then shall we be able to realize God.' Such is their attitude.

"The aspirants of both classes are devotees of God. The farther you advance, the more you will realize that God alone has become everything. He alone does everything. He alone is the Guru and He alone is the Ishta. He alone gives us knowledge and devotion.

"The farther you advance, the more you will see that there are other things even beyond the sandal-wood forest — mines of silver and gold and precious gems. Therefore go forward.

"But how can I ask people to go forward? If worldly people go too far, then the bottom will drop out of their world. One day Keshab was conducting a religious service. He said, 'O God, may we all sink and disappear in the river of bhakti!' When the worship was over I said to him: 'Look here. How can you disappear altogether in the river of bhakti? If you do, what will' happen to those seated behind the screen? (The Master referred to the ladies.) But do one thing: sink now and then, and come back again to dry land.'"

"All the virtues collect themselves where you have your dwelling ; with your grace and favour even the impossible becomes possible without causing any nervous agitation."
